A winter workaway to remind us all why remote living is the only choice for 84codes.

March often means a winter workaway for 84codes, and 2026 was no exception. This one, however, was a bit special, as the whole company was invited to Hållfjället Turiststation, the place that actually made it clear that when we say remote, we mean remote.

Hållfjället is in Åre Municipality, Jämtland County, Sweden, in the southern Årefjällen mountain area. It is near the village of Ottsjö and at an elevation of about 725 meters. The stunning view of Ottfjället made the scenery for the tourist station, which can only be visited on foot.

How did the mountains in Åre play a crucial role in 84codes committing to a remote culture?

Well, you can only promise so much before your actions need to reflect your words for others to believe them. For 84codes, that action came when the founder and CTO decided to settle in this area of Sweden with his family. He, as we all got the chance to see for ourselves, fell in love with the mountains, the forest, the lakes, and the nature surroundings that no “back to office” ever was going to be worth it, forever putting the individual first to create great value. This is something we will always be thankful for, and we could easily see why you would fall in love with this place.

For some of our coworkers, this workaway meant many firsts: first time on a snowmobile, first time ice fishing, first time in the slopes, first time on cross-country skis, or first time with snowshoes. We will let the images speak for themselves (and, of course, no workaway is complete without a little competition 😄).

After a few days on the mountain, the group was reunited at Trillevallen for a couple of days with skiing, snowboarding, coworking, and, to round it off, an amazing northern lights show. A big thank you to Hållfjället Tourist Station for having us and providing the best possible hospitality and food. And to Trillevallen for hosting us and making this workaway unforgettable.
